This item is a P-56 utility shirt adopted by the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in 1956. It was introduced as a model following the P-41 of the World War II period and the P-44 and P-47 of the Korean War period, and features a simpler and more practical design. The USMC stencil and EGA (Eagle, Globe & Anchor) mark on the breast pocket in particular are proof of the unique Marine Corps specifications, further enhancing the collection value. The P-56 was a transitional model that was later succeeded by the OG-107 Utility Shirt, and its existence itself is extremely valuable. It continued to be worn in the early stages of the Vietnam War and can be seen in photographic documentation.

Comparison with other models
-
P-41 (WWII period): 2 large pockets with flaps, 5 front buttons. Fabric is HBT (herringbone twill).
-
P-44 (Korean War): 2 chest pockets with flap + large lower pocket. Designed for storage.
-
P-56 (this item): Simplified, returning to two pockets on the chest only. Material changed to cotton satin. Short-lived model.
-
OG-107 (from late 1950s): Used by both the Army and Marine Corps. The color is a darker olive green. Box silhouette, mass-produced popular model.
The P-56 was positioned as a transitional model, moving from the "storageability of the P-44" to the "simplicity of the OG-107," and was only produced for a short period of time, making it a conspicuous rarity.
