The base jacket is an authentic 1st Model jungle fatigues jacket from the 1963 contract. The year 1963 marked a transitional period just before the U.S. military deployed full-scale combat forces, and this early model jungle fatigues jacket can be considered the origin of the combat uniform that would come to symbolize the Vietnam War for the years that followed.

General Westmoreland was assigned to South Vietnam in 1964 as commander of MACV (Military Assistance Command, Vietnam) and led the U.S. military’s full-scale intervention.From 1965 onward, he pushed for a large-scale buildup of troops and implemented the “Search and Destroy” tactic. Under his command, the U.S. military deployed more than 500,000 troops to Vietnam at its peak and led the largest-scale operations of the Vietnam War.
